Scope:

In 2013, Timeboy was approached by Flying Lotus to design a stage for Kendrick Lamar's opening act on Kanye West's "Yeezus" tour across North America. This opportunity came as Kendrick’s album "Good Kid, M.A.A.D City" was captivating audiences with its vivid storytelling and intricate narratives about his experiences growing up in Compton. The challenge was to create a stage that complemented the album's narrative depth while accommodating the limited space available under Kanye West’s elaborate setup.

Timeboy devised a three-part LED wall configuration that allowed unobstructed viewing from even the most extreme angles in large stadiums, ensuring every audience member could engage with the visual storytelling. Collaborating with director Kahlil Joseph, Timeboy integrated scenes from a short film into the live show, enhancing each song's narrative with a tailored visual journey. The design process involved meticulous planning in a private studio, where Timeboy and Kendrick Lamar fine-tuned the visuals to perfect the alignment between the live performance and the on-screen content.

Serving as Kendrick’s VJ during the tour, Timeboy performed live visual manipulations that were integral to the storytelling, making each performance a unique visual experience. The tour not only marked a significant chapter in Kendrick’s career as his fame surged but also showcased Timeboy's ability to create immersive, narrative-driven visual environments under challenging conditions.
